Major redesign

Context

Context

I first joined eDidaktikum in autumn 2021 as an intern at Tallinn University’s School of Digital Technologies. After the internship I stayed on part-time as a UX/UI and web designer, working with the core team on the platform’s largest upgrade since its launch in 2013. The front end template from this redesign is available on GitHub.

About eDidaktikum

eDidaktikum is Estonia’s largest online study platform, used by around 20 000 learners and staff across the University of Tartu, Tallinn University, the Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn University of Technology, and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

The service supported teachers and students for more than a decade and was discontinued in 2025 when government funding for the platform ended.

Role

👩🏼‍💻 My role

In this project I was responsible for adapting the existing UI to the platform’s new goals and for leading the UX and UI work for the largest upgrade since 2013. I designed new interfaces for the core study and messaging flows and implemented them in the front end using a Tailwind based template. I worked closely with senior developers in an agile team, combining design decisions with practical implementation.

Responsibilities:
1. Redesigning key screens and flows using current UX and UI practices.
2. Developing a new Tailwind based front end template for eDidaktikum 2.
3. Building responsive components with HTML, CSS and PostCSS, and integrating them into the existing PHP application.
4. Creating low and mid fidelity UI mockups in Figma to validate ideas with the team.
5. Collaborating with senior developers in an agile workflow, reviewing changes and adjusting designs based on technical feedback.
6. Managing version control using Git and GitHub.
7. Supporting testing and QA to ensure the new interface worked reliably before release.

The front end template is open source and available on GitHub.
